The End of the World?
Is the end of the world near at hand? Many of God’s people today believe it is not far off. Where do they get this idea? It is most certainly not from Scripture. It is probably from the Scofield Bible. Many of God’s people have been deceived by this book from this very surreptitious agent of the Evil One.
How is this possible? How could so many of God’s people have been so deceived and so very wrong for so long a time? They were deceived by a book that contained enough very well disguised falsehoods to lead them far astray from God’s truth. Today’s Dispensational Christians fell prey to Satan’s word hidden in a book called a Bible. Many did so as they sat at their mother’s knee a generation or two ago.
The basic problem was that they and their parents failed to study, really study, to gain an in-depth knowledge of God’s Word. They were Sunday morning Christians that could not discern the many deviations from God’s truth in Scofield’s book.
This deficiency has led a large number of God’s people to believe the impossible, to believe that God actually changed His mind. The utter impossibility of such a thing did not register with it seems a great majority of these poorly informed Christians. They have been waiting for a rapture for fifty years now and many are still waiting for this utterly impossible event to take place in this present world.
Their anticipation of a sudden but imminent rapture event has virtually halted evangelical work on their part. It has also brought to a complete halt any thought of there ever being a truly Christian world. They really believed that the God that knows the end from the beginning made a mistake, changed His mind and reneged His promise to His Son!
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (Philippians 2:9-11)
Does every knee here mean every knee in the world or does God exaggerate here? Is God’s Word not the absolute truth? Can we no longer trust it? Or should we rather distrust anyone or any book that calls God a weakling that often needs to take back his promises, even one He made to His Son? No, we must trust God and utterly despise anyone that questions God’s immovable Word:
For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed. (Malachi 3:6)
So, we see that Scofield was an agent of Satan, the father of lies, and that everything he wrote in his book is suspect. Yes, even everything your mother may have taught you is suspect if she learned from Scofield. If God actually were to change His mind at any point, then nothing in His Word would be certain; all would be contingent and we would have no word from God on which we could rely.
This, of course, is not the case. God speaks to us through His Word and His Word is truth. It is our place as His creatures first to study to properly understand His Word and then to obey Him.
Scofield’s prediction that the end of the world is near must be trashed with all his lies. The end will not come before all God’s promises are fulfilled and the entire world has been converted to Christ. Let’s get about doing the work He has assigned us.
