How Long?
Children are often impatient. They and many adults as well want to hear instant answers to their questions and see instant results from their efforts. They are so tired of day-to-day life and so very ready to believe any rumor or expression of hope for a change for the better. America’s Christians have become childlike in their faith. They look for the easy way out of the responsibilities God has given them. They look for a rapture out of this world and an end to all the huge burden of responsibility God has placed on their poor little backs. They grasp at rumors of any possible shortcuts that might be available to them.
What is this huge burden of responsibilities that weighs so heavily upon them? How does it compare with the many gifts He has given them? They have been given the gift of eternl life in paradise in return for nothing at all. It was a free, a totally free, gift from God. He asks nothing in retun, nothing whatever for this incomparable gift.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (John 3:16,17)
God, having given this incomparable gift, then asks, merely asks, His so highly blessed children to spread the word of this free gift to anyone and everyone they can. His purpose in this is a world in which everyone has received this gift, a world that believes in Him and lives forever.
How many, though, disdain and reject this huge gift? Actually, no one left to himself accepts it. Everyone, without God’s help, rejects the gift of life. Even the faith to believe in Him is not our own but is itself a gift from God:
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Ephesians 2:8)
Dear reader, do you believe in God, and has He given you this huge gift, the gift of eternal life? If you have received it, jt is only because God chose you, wrote your name in His book before He made the worlds, and at some point in your life gave you the faith to believe in Him.
So, how long will God wait before He sends us some help? He will wait until we begin to obey Him, until we begin to do the work He assigned us to do. He will wait until we begin to make this world a Christian world. It is not a task beyond the ability of God’s people. All we need to do is obey the commandments Jesus gave us, His disciples for today:
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matthew 28:18-20)
It’s really just that simple. When God’s people put aside all their foolishness and get serious about obeying God the world will change very, very rapidly. On the other hand, the longer we delay this responsibility, the more evil it will become. The timeframe is in our hands!
